Tasks for a quantum internet
Why is there so much research going into building the quantum internet? It seems a gigantic task to pursue if we already have a working internet. So, why do we bother?
Many tasks have been a challenge to solve using classical information. Now, with the power of entanglement and instant correlation of measurements, some of them will soon be problems of the past. These tasks range from clock synchronization (crucial for GPS, for instance) to completely blind cloud computation using quantum computers. All thanks to entanglement.
In this short lecture, David Elkouss (QuTech) will briefly introduce some of the best-known applications of a quantum network such as QKD, cloud-based quantum computation, and solving the Byzantine agreement problem.
